Read the case study (6-1) from Chapter 6 in the textbook, entitled “Enterprise Architecture at Chubb Industries.”
As you read, consider the ways in which Chubb Industries used EA to align its business and information technology.

Information: Informing the decision-making process through data management, analysis, and research. Collaboration: Creating a forum for discussion and advancing the organization's interests in partnership with other organizations. Intelligence: Providing studies on risk management and client satisfaction to provide insights that improve the company's performance. Productivity: Allocating resources to balance workloads and meet deadlines. Execution: Executing projects, plans, and policies of the organization, and lastly Risk: Managing all risks that could potentially hurt the organization's performance. As noted above, the responsibilities of each principle are interdependent and complementary. They are executed in a cyclical process that allows for continuous improvement in the enterprise architecture at Chubb. What were some of the advantages of developing architectural standards at Chubb? At Chubb, the company has put in place rigorous standards to create and maintain a coherent Enterprise Architecture. This allows them to focus on creating and maintaining efficient systems that rely on each other for necessary functions. The company uses these standards to effectively manage change throughout the enterprise by determining what must be protected from change, where important data is stored, who is in charge of keeping these records up-to-date, etc. By creating a consistent architecture, Chubb cut down on the time it took to determine which parts of the company needed to be modified and which parts of the company needed to be protected. It also made certain that all information maintained was put into one central location for use as evidence for legal proceedings or defense in case of fraud. The following are some examples of how Chubb has successfully used their Enterprise Architecture standards: - Where records are kept such as who owns files and what is included in these records. - How many recorders must be in place to keep data safe and how to protect it? - How Chubb employees will be notified of an incident that could cause a lawsuit to protect company assets. - How these records are to be organized and accessed by legal personnel, as well as the individuals involved with investigations or trials, should a lawsuit arise.
