Green Advertising: A Review Based on Bibliographic Coupling Analysis

This study aims to map all scientific publications on green advertising and identify potential future research directions. The data included 204 English-language studies on green advertising that were searched in the Web of Science database. Bibliographic coupling analysis and thematic analysis methods were used to analyze the evolution of research on the topic over time. The results of the bibliometric analysis show that there are five main themes. From the thematic analysis, lines of research within each piece are identified, including ‘the effectiveness of green marketing’, ‘green consumption intention’, ‘green advertising and consumer behavior’, ‘green message’, ‘method of advertising’, ‘strategy of green advertising’, ‘credibility of green advertising’, ‘ambiguity and skepticism in green advertising g’, ‘greenwashing’, ‘environmental cooperation’, and ‘platform-led green initiatives. This study offers valuable insights into the latest and most significant achievements in green advertising, explicitly focusing on state-of-the-art thematic subjects. As a result, it identifies promising areas for future research that can contribute to advancing the research community.

The purpose of this paper is to present a literature survey on, and classification for, green marketing research.

Design/methodology/approach

Suitable keywords were used to search peer-reviewed journal articles published in marketing, business and management journals in duration 1990-2014. The articles identified were screened for titles, abstracts, keywords, frameworks, headings and sub-headings that resulted in 161 relevant articles. These articles were classified across thematic categories and their distribution was also presented for year of publication, publication outlets, location of authors, key contributing authors.

The articles were classified across four thematic categories: eco-orientation, green marketing strategy, green marketing functions and green marketing consequences. It outlined the contribution of the earlier work under each theme, illustrated upon their implications for green marketing practice and research and provided directions for future research.

Research limitations/implications

This literature survey provides a source for understanding current state of research on green marketing and to stimulate further interest of researchers in the domain.

Originality/value

The paper provides a comprehensive review of green marketing literature on green marketing, distinctly adding to the contributions made by earlier literature reviews in the domain. It outlines the classifications of the literature, and key concepts and themes related to green marketing that intend to shape future research directions.

Topic 1 - Marketing and its link to sustainable development

The concepts involved are those of marketing and sustainable development. Over the years, they have become closer and closer, with any business looking to implement greener marketing. Problem: how is sustainable development beneficial to the use of greener marketing on a daily basis? Talk about sustainable development in companies, ecological products and their impact on consumer choice. Also, deal with greener communication and everything relating to the environment and its protection in the actions carried out by the groups. Give specific examples.  

Topic 2 - Communication and green marketing

The two concepts have been linked for a short time, especially since communication and sustainable development can be seen as sometimes contradictory concepts. Problem: how to use communication in the implementation of green marketing? Talk about business communication methods, their impact on green marketing, and their usefulness. Talk about awareness factors in companies and what exactly is meant by green marketing. What are its advantages and disadvantages? What are the differences with more traditional marketing?

Topic 3 - New technologies and ecology in companies for more responsible marketing

These two notions are paradoxical, new technologies are often not compatible with ecology. The constructions of men on the planet to allow the development and operation of new technologies clearly appear to be in contradiction. Problem: how to combine new technologies and ecology within companies as part of more responsible marketing? Talk about the concept of green marketing, define the nuances and responsibilities of each player in the context of environmental protection. What new technologies are used, and how do they serve the objectives of green marketing on a daily basis?  

Topic 4 - Reconciling the ecological argument in a new green marketing

The ecological argument has become essential in companies, both for managers and for new candidates from the younger generations, who are increasingly interested in the ecological question. Problem: how are ecological arguments essential for the well-being of a company and the development of more reliable marketing? Talk about consumers and their new vision of advertising communication. Why do the old ways no longer work? How to implement more responsible marketing, and for what objectives? How to combine ecological objectives and commercial objectives? What influence does ecology have on consumers and on business partners?

Topic 5 - Green marketing: a real issue or a fad?

The question that many consumers or even professionals ask is whether green marketing is just a trend of the moment or a real commitment. Problem: is green marketing a new way of considering communication or a purely commercial opportunity? Talk about the contributions of green marketing compared to traditional marketing. What are the changes? How is green marketing defined? Give examples of green marketing campaigns and their influence on the merits of the company. How To Find A Research Topic

Before we look at specific research ideas and topics, it’s useful to first understand what the topic ideation process entails and how to go about finding and refining viable topic ideas. Abstract: newlineThe primary research is on green marketing strategies and their impact on business performance. The impact finding is in marketing term which finds about the awareness credibility satisfaction and repeat purchase of the Green products. The Green Marketing strategies used for the study are EcoLabeling Supply chain initiatives Product modification for green effect and customer adoption of Green Products. The objective of the research is to understand the relationship of Green Marketing Strategies and their impact on the Business performance.It also includes the strategies which are to be used so that the green marketing can be promoted and green products are made more ecologically viable for the consumers.Two aspects were undertaken.What do Green Marketing Strategies imply Is it related to environment friendly marketing processes wherein complete marketing system inclusive of Segmentation Targeting and Positioning and 4Ps along with the relationship of STP and 4Ps on other elements of the Supply Chain.Green environment conscious and supportive or is it just related to the Marketing to be Green specifically focusing on the elements of 4Ps.Further based on the organizations how do they define Green marketing strategies and how do they implement those and what would be the parameters of relationship of Green marketing Strategies defined by the organizations with the Business Performance. The purpose of the study is to obtain the information from consumers point of view as well of the companies claiming to be using green marketing. Questionnaire was provided to the customers using Green Products to obtain their views on the parameters.The importance of advertising about green products would be studied to confirm that whether consumers believe in green claim by the companies using techniques Ecolabelling.So the study focuses on the concept of green marketing strategies and its impact on the business performance of the organizations. newline newline newline
