This research paper is designed to psychologically analyze the protagonist of Tehmina Durrani’s autobiographical novel My Feudal Lord that is Durrani herself. Sigmund Freud has developed the structural theory where he proclaims that any imbalance among Id, ego and superego results in serious conflicts in one’s personality. Freud’s theory of structural personality has been employed on the character of Durrani which does unravel the internal conflicts of Durrani during the course of the story that affirms the desire oriented-psyche of hers. The research on the one hand is an in-depth study of Durrani’s psychological condition and on the other hand is a source of great moral lesson for the people who do not value the suggestions of their closed ones and are greedy and materialistic in their approach. The researcher has read related articles and books in order to achieve the objectives of this research. By the end of this research, it is concluded that the psyche of Durrani is strongly Id-driven whereas, her ego remains dormant.

Feudalism has significantly nurtured upon colonialism. Popular as a strong system in medieval Europe, it is still prevalent in Asian countries. Generally, it aims to provide order and structure during times of crisis and is centered on the power of owning land. This study explores the effect of feudalism on gender relations in post-colonial Pakistan through an analysis of the portrayal of the male-female relationships in My Feudal Lord by Tehmina Durrani. It discusses literary representation of the antagonists in narratives as relational and their performative roles as best understood with the help of performance theory.

WOMEN’S SELF-IDENTITY CONFLICT RESOLUTION: A STUDY OF ‘MY FEUDAL LORD’
- Sehrish Bano
- Dr. Mian Shah Bacha
- Dr. Rabiah Rustam
This research paper investigates the memoir ‘My Feudal Lord’ to explore identity crisis and confrontation present in the text. To highlight the identity crisis and causes of confrontation, the ideologies of feministic perspective of Simon de Beauvoir’s Second sex (1949) has been applied upon the text of the memoir. Moreover, this study also investigates the lecherous behavior and savagery against women in a medieval society in the book "My Feudal Lord" by "Tehmina Durrani"(1995). The researcher has tried to explain the problems faced by the females in the male-dominated society. Durrani (1995) highlights her personal experiences of being subjugated and subdued in the male-dominated society where she suffered and experienced setbacks, obstructions and disrespect. This research is qualitative in nature. Simon de Beauvoir’s Second Sex (1949) has been used as a theoretical framework for this research study. Beauvoir’s (1949) concept of gender inequality implies on the study and her view that women have to speak for themselves is the key of self-identity. Throughout the sections of memoir, one can map the progress of Tehmina from a weak homemaker to a brave social crusader fighting politically and later, socially for her own identity from the clutches of her husband and categorically from the constraints of society, traditions and norms. These rebellious stunts can be marked as a quest for her identities as well as reconstruction of her “self”, resulting in her self-actualization.

A Critical Review of My Feudal Lord

Feminism has gained a prominent position in less time especially in the third world where women are largely considered under the control of patriarchy and male chauvinistic ideas. In such a situation when any woman writes against men or raises a voice against the settled norm of society it is not only highly appreciated but also results in extreme manipulation of men at the hands of women. This research argues that My Feudal Lord falls into the same category. Woman's stance of defaming their male counterpart raises many questions that need to be answered. Especially when a woman claims herself, to be a victim and a voice of third world Muslim country. This research is based on the theory of Anti-Feminism, which counters feminism, especially when it marginalizes men and defames them in the name of giving voice to females in patriarchal society. This study deals these research questions: Q. 1How does Durrani exploit the feminism to her benefit in My Feudal Lord? Q. 2How does Durrani misrepresent herself to be a Third World Muslim Women representative in the novel? The main objectives to conduct this research are: To find out the Anti-Feministic Elements in the undertaken Novel, My Feudal Lord by Tehmina Durrani to falsify the exaggerated use of Patriarchal imagery and to nullify the self behalfist claim of Durrani as a subjugated entity.

The present study analyses gender powers in Tehmina Durrani's autobiographical novel My Feudal Lord in Pierre Bourdieu's (1977) notion of " habitus " which is a part of his Theory of Practice. Habitus as a critical approach is used to understand the behavior and habits of individuals. According to Bourdieu (1977) structuring of individual's habitus starts from the very childhood and is strengthened throughout the life. Keeping in view this approach, the present study aims to analyse and interpret the habitus of a feudal man (Mustafa Khar) and a woman (Tehmina Durrani) in a feudal and patriarchal Pakistani society. In close reading analysis method, the qualitative study focuses on function of habitus in making gender roles in different ways viz. how habitus of an individual is developed and re/structured in a feudal society. The study examines the struggle of the two main characters i.e. Tehmina and Mustafa to maintain or break their socially made habitus. Finally, the paper achieves that although habitus of individuals is continuously structured into their minds, yet it is broken in certain circumstances and situations.

Autobiography has become an ideal vehicle to convey women’s issues and experiences. This genre is also chosen by women to express their deference and resistance. This paper critically examines the autobiography of Tehmina Durrani ‘My Feudal Lord’. Durrani’s autobiography throws light on the institution of marriage and family that are thoroughly embedded in cultural practices. It is a regular autobiography following a chronological order and the last part brings out the changes occurring in her personality. The author blames patriarchy, feudalism and cultural norms for women’s oppression. Therefore, Durrani acts to discover herself when she decides to reject a life with a husband who mistreats and degrades her. Under terrible pressures, she struggles to become independent and pushes through to regain self-esteem and living fulfillment. By writing about her own life, Durrani has not only challenged the prescribed behavioral patterns but also gives vent to her angered feelings and fina...

The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze the causes of anxiety or trauma and the defense mechanisms employed by the main character for coping with those anxieties in the novel " My Feudal Lord " of Tehmina Durrani. Durrani is one of the initiators and pioneers among Anglo-Pakistani narrators who raised her voice against the cruelty of feudal lords in Pakistan. Her works give a vivid picture of societal complications of feminine population like psychological sufferings, trauma and domestic violence and issues related to sexuality in Pakistani elite society. So, the main emphasis of this paper is on character's inner working particularly protagonist's mind and how she succeeds or fails in tackling her social and domestic problems. Psychoanalysis in literature is hermeneutics particularly the theory of anxiety and defense mechanism presented by the father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud will be used as a lens for interpretation of the text of Tehmina Durrani's My Feudal Lord. Perhaps Sigmund Freud's theory of defense mechanisms is most appropriate for investigating the narrative because this theory lets one to examine the characters psyche and psychological effects of society on the characters.

This paper is concerned with the subjugation and oppression of women in the southern region of Pakistan. Women are constantly subjugated by patriarchy and male dominance. This research paper will identify Pakistani Muslim women in rural areas and how they are marginalized under the pressure of political and social institutes of Pakistan's tribal society. The struggle for basic women rights and oppression experiences are burning issue in the Southern region of Pakistan. This paper will critically analyze the feminist study of how tribalism works as a whole hidden system. Southern women have always been under pressure and an analysis of 'My Feudal Lord' will shed light on the same issue from experiences of Tehmina Durrani as an urbanized educated woman struggling to make her place in a tribal system.

This study aims to explore the sexual harassment and violence against women in a feudal society in the novel " My Feudal Lord " by " Tehmina Durrani ". It spotlights how women live under social restrained destiny; where they suffer letdown, thwarting, dismay and mocking. Physical violence is usually accompanied by psychological abuse and in many cases by sexual assault. Wife beating is a century old phenomenon; which transcends all natural, ethnic and class boundaries. We can see the same condition in Durrani's " My Feudal Lord " , where women are not only ill-treated by their husbands but also by the feudals of their areas. All these problems and incidents are dangerous for women's identity. The paper deals with major aspects of hegemonic masculinity, sexual harassment and violence against women. This report will study the threats to female identity in the light of Kristeva's feministic views (1980, 1983, 1986, 2008).
